The Okanagan produces a lot of organic waste. Now it has a purpose-built place to send it, 25 km west of Peachland.
Who we are
Brenda Renewables is a special purpose company established to manage and operate the organics processing facility at the former Brenda Mine site, off the Highway 97 Connector near Peachland, BC.
We take organic waste that used to head for landfill, from wineries, orchards, food operations, wood-products yards, and municipalities, and turn it into Class A compost. It is straightforward work: weigh it in, process it right, keep it local.
The facility
This is a purpose-built composting facility with over $10 million of infrastructure behind it, a project ten years in the making that opened in the spring of 2026. It is already planning expansion, including the capacity to take further organics, with the controls to do it responsibly.
The land
The Brenda Mine shipped its last ore decades ago. Today, compost made at our facility goes back onto that same ground.
The majority of our compost supports a native-species restoration program returning the former mine site to living land. Every load diverted here becomes part of putting something back, in one of the larger land-regeneration efforts in the region.
